Qlimax Times Online - Midgets Gone Wild

INTERVIEW WITH THE EXTRAORDINARY DEVON MICHAELS

The first time I ever heard of Devon Michaels was during the Miss Nude World International Pageant held at the Century Restaurant and Cabaret on the north side of Houston, Texas in 1995. Devon walked away with the title of “Best Body,” hands down! One week later she was competing in another contest at Club Legends in Arlington, Texas where I met her in person for the first time. Her stage performance was awesome, but she was edged out on the last night of competition. She ended up as second runner-up.

Since then I’ve seen Devon several times at different clubs like Blondies in St. Joseph, Missouri, Bazooka’s Showgirls in Kansas City, Missouri, and the Pink Pony in Atlanta, Georgia. Between magazine shoots, television, making porn movies, featuring on the road and keeping her body fit, Devon has one hell of a grueling schedule. But, I recently caught up with Devon again for this exclusive interview. - By Rick Ryan.

Rick: We’re here at the Playhouse in Council Bluffs, Iowa talking with hard body Devon Michaels. The first time we ever met was back in 1995 at Club Legends in Arlington Texas.

Devon: Oh yes, the Entertainer of the Year contest.

Rick: It has been a long time. What the hell have you been up to?

Devon: Still touring, doing some movies here and there, and that is about it, staying busying. I’ve got my website still going at Devonsbodyshop.net.

Rick: Now you know I can remember back in 1995 when I asked you a question about whether or not you would ever do porn? And you told me emphatically no! What changed your mind?

Devon: Well, I was in a relationship then. I would never do porn if I were ever in a serious relationship. And I was married, and I am no longer married. That’s what’s changed.

Rick: So how many movies have you made roughly to date now?

Devon: About seventy-five. I’m not under contract so I work for everyone. I work for Wicked, Vivid, Sin City, and Digital Playground. Most of the top companies I’ve worked for.

Rick: When did you make your first porn movie?

Devon: That was in 2002 for Wicked, and that movie was called “Makin It.”

Rick: Can you tell the readers some of the titles of the other movies you’ve made?

Devon: Some of the movies have been “Cargo,” “Another Woman’s Eyes,” “Wicked Sex Party 6,” “Can’t Stop Me: Devon’s First Time” and “Unbelievable Sex 2.”

Rick: You’ve also made some movies for California Wildcats, right?

Devon: Yes. California Wildcats makes the female wrestling and cat-fighting videos. I’ve made a few for them - a little more than six or seven, maybe eight.

Rick: Can you recall any of the titles?

Devon: The newest release is “Bang ‘Em Hard!” and “Big Breasted Bed Battle.”

Rick: For people who are not familiar with you, lets give them a little background where you were born and raised and how you got into the adult entertainment business.

Devon: Ok, I was born and raised in Illinois. I moved to New York after I graduated school there. I went to Bradley University in Peoria. I had a friend who was a feature, so I moved to New York with her to start featuring. Her name was Laura Ashley Cambridge, but she retired from the business several years ago. Another big influence was Melissa Wolf. And that is basically when I started traveling and featuring. I stopped for a little while because I had a really good home club in New York, and then I went back on the road a few years later.

Rick: I guess it was quite a big change for you when you made your first porn movie. Now that first porn movie was not a male/female was it?

Devon: No, it was with Stephanie Swift. It was her movie called “Makin It.” My scene was actually with Stephanie Swift and it was a five-girl scene. So it was Stephanie, Sydnee Steele, Nicole and I can’t think of her last name now, the tall pretty blonde married to Voodoo but it was with a lot of great girls and it was for Bret Armstrong who produced it.

Rick: So I guess you are still doing the magazines as well?

Devon: A little bit here and there, I’m pretty busy on the road and with my club but I was out in LA about a month ago and did a couple of movies and I was just in Leg Show and I modeled for a couple of busty magazines while I was out there too. So I still do a little here and there. And the fitness magazines I still do as well.

Rick: On April 15, 2004, you opened up a new club in Peoria, Illinois called Elliott’s. As co-owner of the club, will you ever perform there?

Devon: Of course, whenever I’m not on the road.

Rick: Now with your club up in Illinois, do you bring features in there?

Devon: Yes, we have features once a month. We’ve had Lexi Lamour, and next week we have Zoey Brittain. We’ve had a lot of great girls there. Exotica came and helped up open the club. So we’ve had a lot of really good entertainers there. Oh! We also had Brandy Lynn Banks and Regan Anthony.

Rick: Changing the subject, do you normally make the Exotic Dance Magazine show out in Vegas?

Devon: Yes, I’m there every year. I actually work for the magazine during that show, so I’m always there.

Rick: You’ve done a lot of shoots for magazines over the years. Which magazine had you first - layout wise?

Devon: I did my first magazine in 1990 for Cheri. Since that time I’ve had layouts in Score, Swank, Gent, OUI, Bust Out, Nugget, Hawk, D-Cup, Showgirls and so many more.

Rick: Not only have you modeled for the men’s magazines, but fitness magazines too.

Devon: Yes, I’ve done Muscle Mag, Ironman, Pump and Great Lakes Fitness. Most of the major fitness magazines!

Rick: Now when you’re not on the road and just lying back at home, what do you enjoy doing in your real life?

Devon: Well I go to the gym, I take Yoga, I watch movies but when I’m home now I have to club to run too, so I don’t have a lot of free time. Generally it’s like I go to the gym, watch a little television, and go to the club to make sure everything is running right. I work a lot.

Rick: Now you’ve toured quite a bit in the US. Do you have a particular region, a particular club that you like more than any other?

Devon: Well I do well in the South but I’ve always actually loved the west. I’m a Midwestern girl so the Midwest will always have a special place for me. I always do very well in Iowa because the people are very nice. All parts of Illinois and even Ohio. Of course, Texas holds a special place in my heart too.

Rick: What types of movies do you prefer?

Devon: Generally I like comedies. I like just a good story. Everything on HBO on Sunday nights. I’m a big HBO fan. I like all of their original programs whether it is sitcoms or whatever. HBO Undercover, I like anything they do.

Rick: Music wise... do you have a preference?

Devon: Not really, I’ve always enjoyed all sorts of music. I like pretty much everything except County Western. I like Hip-Hop, but I don’t like heavy, heavy rap. I don’t like Gangster Rap. I like Hip-Hop as I said, and anything with a great beat. I like Classic Rock. All kinds of music Rick!

Rick: Do you have any pets at home?

Devon: I have a cat and that’s it. That is actually by default, it was my roommates, she got tired of it so I took over the cat but she still watches it when I’m gone.

Rick: You grew up on a farm with two older brothers. What was life like then?

Devon: Oh, I helped out with the chores like feeding the hogs and chickens. I was a good kid who never touched drugs or got in trouble. I was on the cheerleading squad, involved in 4-H, track and piano. I was like any other kid growing up in a small town atmosphere in the Midwest.

Rick: You’ve been featuring for nearly ten years?

Devon: Yes, I’ve been featuring for a decade. And this will be my last year, so if you haven’t come out to see me, you need to make sure you do so. After that I’ll be spending more time at my club but I will still have my website up for at least a couple of years. I’m just going to be taking care of my club, making sure everything’s going well at home.

Rick: Are there any other last words you want to say to your fans out there?

Devon: Just come out and see me, hopefully you’ll enjoy the show. I’ve got lots of DVD’s, 8x10’s and all sorts of give-a-ways and lots of merchandise to sell after my shows. And I like to think that my stage show is pretty entertaining as well, so come out and see me.

Rick: I appreciate your time Devon, thank you very much.

Devon: Thank you Rick! It was so nice seeing you again.

WRITERS NOTES: Like any other person, Devon reserves the right to change her mind. When I caught up with Devon in Missouri a few years ago, she told me then that she was retiring at the end of the year. She didn’t! I’m sure her loyal fans wouldn’t want to see her retire within the next year either.

Devon Michaels has always delivered the goods on stage with high energy and finesse as she did that night at the Playhouse Performance Arts Theater in Council Bluffs. She invested, over the years, thousands of dollars on her stage wardrobe. Her voluptuous 38DD-23-33 body on a 5’2" frame hasn’t changed at all when I first met her in 1995. Devon has always had a laid-back approach to life, and a genuinely friendly personality that charms you from the moment she starts talking. When I asked her in 1995 how long she’d be dancing in this business, she replied with “I’ll dance until my ass is as big as Texas.” Well, her ass is far from the size of Texas, and still as tight and firm as it was in 1995. I would say that she still holds the title of “World’s Hottest Body” as she did in the past.

I would like to thank Devon Michaels and the owner, staff and entertainers of the Playhouse Performance Arts Theater for their time that night. We all had a great time! For more information on this all-nude club call (712) 366-8880. And don’t forget Devon’s web site address at: devonsbodyshop.net.
